Right now Daddy is seething. C.J. is sleeping peacefully but I am furious. It is all regarding the Lakers game. Kobe Bryant is the only Laker playing in a game that we MUST win. C.J. saw some of the game today, but I guess the lackluster performance of our team put her to sleep. Maybe I will have some good news to share in the morning, but it does not look good right now.
C.J. has been home sick since this past Wednesday night. She has taken her medicine, stayed away form the sitter's, and she has been home driving her parents nuts. Now the new work week begins. Both Daddy and Mommy have to go to work. Truth be told, Mommy has taken more than enough time off, lol! Now we will see how C.J. makes out with her first day back in the normal routine.
We can rest assured that tomorrow will not be normally for Daddy. He will leave the ringer on just in case he needs to go get his Princess early. Normally he will turn the ringer off and he is guaranteed to hear the vibration or see the phone light up when need be. Daddy already knows that Mommy will call a few more times than she regularly does. Come to think of it, she might as well teach her classes in the babysitter's backyard tomorrow. Normal it will be, but there will be some abnormal actions all in the name of C.J. Johnson.
This evening was interesting. Daddy had to administer some tough love. Usually he will heed to C.J.'s every beck and call. Tonight, however, Daddy had some things around the house he needed to tend to, so he had to put C.J. in her playpen to play by herself. As so as she realized she was in there, the fireworks began. Crying, whining, pouting, and anything else she could have done. Daddy held firm and just looked at her. Even though she cried violently, he assured her that he was there and kept doing what he was doing. He did this for a long time and again it was Mommy who punked out and came to her rescue. Once Daddy and Mommy were done, they tended to C.J. and she instantly was all smiles.
So today is coming to an end. Prayers have been sent up for C.J. Her bag is packed, and she is asleep while Daddy remains pissed about this game. So as you pray tonight, keep her in your prayers. We know that prayer changes things, people, and situations.
NOTE TO C.J.: When you play any type of sport, make sure you never leave the game in the hands of the referees. Give it 100% every time you go on the floor, field, court, lynx or any other athletic venue.
This blog will chronicle the journey between a new father and his daughter. It will highlight the ups and the downs, and all the lessons learned. It is my prayer that "C.J. and Me" will be an inspiration to all that the bond between father and daughter can be strong. It will also show the world that there are REAL men who help develop stellar women who will go on and shake up the world. Enjoy the journey and look daily to see what new and exciting things are going on in our lives!

A Breath of Fresh Air
As you all know CJ has been sick for the past few days. She is still recuperating nicely but still has a ways to go. One of the side effects from her medicine is insomnia and CJ has a full blown case of it. Her sleeping is all out of sorts. She sleeps for two hours then wakes up. At night she is not going to sleep until well after her normal time. Like tonight it is 11:06pm and she is still up and active. I should do what I did last night and that was to take her outside for a walk. She felt the fresh air and she was calm. She laid in my arms and observed the dark nighttime sky. I concluded that the fresh air did her well.
Today we all were home together. Mommy and Daddy originally had plans but they fell through. I am sad that they did not happen but I am glad the weekend was free so I could be hear for my princess. Normally I would have had a itinerary full of meetings and events that I would have had to cancel. In my life, my family is "numero uno!" So this morning Daddy decided he would have Mommy and CJ ride with him while he accomplished a few tasks. One reason was that he hates driving alone, he does that every day of the week. the other was to get them out of the house. Looking at the same set of walls for three days straight would drive anyone crazy before long. He was precise too, usually Daddy likes to linger when he has nothing to do but today everything was done in a timely manner to ensure CJ was home to get hat rest she could. Daddy hypothesis was correct, once she was out in that fresh air for a while she began to doze off. Once we were headed home she was out for the count and slept for a good while too. Perhaps that is the reason why she is still awake now.
I will report out that CJ is handling sickness well. Her appetite is still intact, she is still all over place and her spirits are high. The only thing that CJ nor Daddy and Mommy have adjusted to is the results of the medicine. So as I conclude today pray for us all. We know that prayer can and will change things, people, and situations.

My Sick Child, or Not so Sick Child
I am stuck in the middle people. Last night we found out that C.J. was really sick. Daddy already had the day off, and knew he had to keep C.J. Then Mommy, knowing she should have gone to work today, used the "But it is my baby" excuse to stay home. So not only did I have C.J. home with me, after I told her she would never be a part of my Friday's off again, Mommy took it upon herself to make my claim false that she would not be a part of my Friday's off, either. Anyway, that is not what I am confused about.
Folks, when I am sick, I am miserable. All I want to do is lay in the bed, watch television, moan and complain, and eat soup. I do not want to be around people, hear from people, and I could care less what is going on in the outside world, so no one better not call me to find out how I am doing. I am sick...that is all you need to know. So Daddy thought that his Princess being sick would make her as lazy as it makes him. Boy was I wrong. Her sleeping is off. She woke up around 6am on a day no one had to go anywhere. I did not even set my alarm. Not only did she wake up, but she wanted to be active. She wanted to be entertained...I could not believe it. She was acting as if nothing was wrong with her. It gets better, though. You know how I always talk about my determined Princess, and my very independent child. Well today she acted as if she needed assistance with everything. She did more whining today than she has ever done in her 10 months of existence. Now this was not isolated whining. She whined as she crawled, whined as she climbed, whined while she ate, whined as she was changed, whined as she blew spit bubbles, whined when you held her...whined, whined, whined, whined, whined. I will admit to you all it got on my last nerve. I told her at one point you are going to stop this whining. I even built up the courage to put her in the crib and ignore her. I was going strong too and guess who of all people went to her rescue, Mommy! Folks, Homegirl did not even have a fake tear in the tear duct. Needless to say it was a long, long day.
Now you would think being sick would have her worn out right about now. It does not. It seems as if she has some potential energy that turns kinetic at night time. If the medicine does this then I will have to create something new. She is acting as if it is 9:15am. C.J., I must inform you that the sun is down and the moon is up so you need to carry your little self to sleep, pronto. I do not know what I am going to do. I think I am going to run away from home and leave Mommy to deal with her alone. She is running this house these past two days and I have to develop a fool proof plan to regain my supremacy.
So I am going to go now and tend to the "Queen B"! I have to make sure she does not have Mommy tied up and dangling off the side of the playpen. You all continue to pray for her health. I will, but you better believe I will pray for my home back, as well. You all know that prayer changes things, people, and situations and C.J. is all three wrapped up in one today.
NOTE TO C.J.: I have not left one of these in a long time. C.J., I want you to know that the other day I ran out to get you Motrin in the rain. Then yesterday I missed some of the Lakers game to take you to the doctor. Your mother and I have been caring for you meticulously. We have been at your every beck and call. You are acting like a diva and you are running around here like you are well. You need to mark this date down because you need not have anymore like it, EVER! I love you Princess but your being sick brings about too much drama.

She Really Is Sick :(
Well my friends, it is official. C.J. is sick. This morning she woke up at 4:30am, and was perky. She had a fever so we treated that and she laid back down. I was a little worried so I stayed home a little later than normal. I did not leave the house until five minutes to eight. If you know me, you know I am usually near work by that time. I wanted to make sure that both Mommy and C.J. would be OK. So I arrived to work around 9:30am, and as soon as I touched my seat, I made a call home. Now I was a little upset because I got no answer on either the cell nor the house phone. Later than I wanted, Mommy called me and let me know they were asleep, so I was at ease a little.
So the day goes on, and Daddy has a successful meeting and the office had a nice lunch together. As soon as I hit the car to head home, I called to see how C.J. was doing. My exact words to Mommy were, "How is the little monster doing?" She responded, "Being a monster". It was about that time that I heard loud noise in the background. I asked Mommy, "Is that her?" She assured me that the noise I heard was C.J. I figured that she was back to normal. When I arrived home she was fighting Mommy because she did not want to lay down. She saw me and began to grin. She ate well, she drank her milk without incident, so I thought we were in the clear. I figured we would be all systems go for the babysitter tomorrow and Daddy would be home to enjoy his day off alone. Mommy did not like it but that was the plan.
Suddenly things went south. Mommy felt C.J. and said her fever might be back. She also thought C.J. was grabbing at her ears. So she decided to give the doctor a call. He said to bring her in if we wanted to. I agreed that we should at least so Mommy would be at ease and we would know what was up. When we arrived at the doctor's, I let his wife know that Mommy was paranoid and that we should check her out. In the end it was Mommy that was on point because C.J. has strep throat. Now we are figuring that she got it from those nasty children Mommy teaches. She is contagious for the next twenty four hours so we will all be home together. She has her medicine now, and is still operating as if nothing is wrong. As I always I say my Princess is a fighter, just like her Daddy!
So folks you know what we are praying for tonight. We are praying that C.J. is healed and back to 100 percent quickly, and that Daddy will get one Friday where he will be able to chill without C.J., lol! I love her to death but I just want one folks, just one. So pray up, we know prayer changes things, people, and situations.

CJ Is Sick!
So the chain of events goes this way. Mommy texts Daddy to tell him she is staying late at work to see the Awards Ceremony. Daddy rides up Route 1 to pick up C.J. Upon arrival, C.J. is waiting calmly. The sitter tells me that she is feeling a little warm. Daddy asks if she ate, and of course, the answer was yes. So C.J. and Daddy headed for home. C.J. cried an unusual cry, though. Usually when she cries in the car, it is a painful cry...one that annoys, and makes you know she wants attention. Today it was a moan, more so like I do not feel well, Daddy. We arrive home and C.J. is lethargic...no smiles, no crawling, no laughing, no trouble. That is not my Princess.
So now, I am calm and I take her temperature, 101.3 not good, so I call the doctor and of course the boss lady. The doctor called back, said to give her some ibuprofin, and see what that does. I race out in the rain to find some because Tylenol has been recalled. CVS is empty so I had to drive to Walgreens. I came back home. Mommy was now there and she administered the medicine. The fever broke, but then she vomited something awful. She took another bath and fell asleep a little while later.
I would say that Daddy handled the situation well. I remained calm and treated my Princess the best I could. She rested and Daddy comforted her. I just hope she feels better in the morning. So pray for C.J.'s health tonight folks. We know prayer changes things, people, and situations and, tonight specifically, C.J.'s health.

Voyage to Hawaii
Since the weather was very comfortable today, C.J. and the rest of the babysitter's crew were given the opportunity to go outdoors today. When I arrived, I saw C.J. with a lei on. Mommy informed me that she had gone to Hawaii. How she accomplished that and returned home by 4:15pm was beyond me. I wanted to take C.J. on her first trip to the island, but I guess I will have to play second best.
I am glad that C.J. is getting the opportunity to explore with her imagination. As an educator, I always encourage my students to see beyond where they are. Too many times our young people today are forced to limit themselves to the boxes in which they are placed. As for C.J., she will always be encouraged to see what she wants. I never want to throw limits at her and develop barriers that will hinder her. Instead I want to nurture her process and help her realize how to make her dreams come into reality.
C.J. did not sleep much today at the sitter so when she arrived home she napped. She did manage to get her climb on, and she spent a lot of time on her feet today. Pretty soon she will be taking those first few steps. She is building her confidence more and more each day. Daddy gets excited when he sees the determination of his Princess written all over her face. Her eyes get focused and she refuses to stop until she feels her task is complete. I pray daily that she embeds this in her personal box for life.
C.J. did not get to watch any of game three of the NBA Finals, but I will give her a full report in the morning. Hopefully our team, The Lakers, will represent positively tonight. So let me get back to the game now. You all pray now. Prayer changes people, things, and situations.

She Must Have Been Tired
Today Daddy sent pictures of the beach to everyone he knew. He attended a conference today and he shared with them the view from work. It seems as if C.J. had a day at the beach as well because she has worn herself completely out. Now you know for a while here lately, I have been reporting that she has refused to go to sleep once her bath, prayers and reading are done. Well today we needed to go back out once we arrived home. She needed some food so we had to go purchase it. Well she was up all throughout the shopping process. However, on the ride home, about three minutes from our destination, Mommy whispers to me that C.J. would be asleep before we park.
Now I say to myself, "Who does she think she is?" This morning she remained asleep while I dressed her and now she wants to go to sleep when she feels like it. Anyway you look at it as C.J. is doing as she pleases, which is quite interesting.
This morning C.J. and I had to endure a verbal assault from the baby sitter and her daughter. They dislike Kobe and hate the Lakers. Unfortunatley for C.J. and I, the Lakers lost last night and are the reason why we had to be humble today. We will get over it and we will be back on top Tuesday night.
The highlight of the day is that C.J. now has her first Mets hat! We were in Babies R Us today and Daddy saw it and just had to get it for her. I am not trying to make her a boy, but she does need that for when we support the "Amazings". Now Daddy is looking for one close to what she has so we can match.
I know I need prayer folks, so go ahead and lift me up in prayer. We know prayer changes things, people, and situations.
